52nd Oxfordshire Light Infantry

Dear Forum Members,

It's been a while since I posted - pressure of work and all that. I've had a go at the 52nd Oxfordshire Light Infantry. They are mostly the Hat figures with others mixed in. Hope you like them!

Dear thomaspicton,

My congratulations. :-D

You have made great progress since the last time I watched your work. The rye field looks terrific. Your figures fit it very well. Painting and detail of this unit is massive and impressive like always. Their brown bases fit those fields very well, like if all crops were trampled under their feet where they are standing.
Compared to your early posts, where a glass table desk sprinkled with hay (?) was your 'landscape' you did a very great job now. Creating that quiet background helps a lot too.
Well done, well done. :yeah:

For sure.
Especially the very first pic.
Groundwork, background as the angle of the pic is well chosen.

Very Very impressive!! Congrats to you. I too like not only the painting and figure choice but the surroundings.

Question - how many total figures used? Lots of red and grey paint!!!!!

Hello Mr P nice to see you back in action.

Very impressive as always and nice to see the gloss finish has disappeared.

The 52nd I believe had buff facings and several of these fellows seem a bit yellow it is it my eyes?

Nevertheless, most impressive.

What have you used for the field please? It might be useful for Quatre Bras.

Best wishes,

Chris

Many thanks to you all.

I think it's important to emphasise that I'm not trying to present a finished product, the scatter was merely a temporary thing. These are units that will be moved to the actual diorama once I am: a) a millionaire b) own a football pitch sized barn and c) retire at the age of 90 (the earliest I am likely to afford (a) and (b)!).

To answer specific questions:

There are about 600 of them - never again - this took me two months.
Well done for spotting the facing colour - I went for the slightly more yellow look as the buff doesn't show up so well.
The Rye fields are made from, wait for it, teddy bear fur, gained from any good haberdasher and on eBay - one has to cut it down quite a lot as it otherwise dwarfs the figures - elsewhere online, I've seen some WW2 people use it quite effectively.

But otherwise I'm relatively pleased with the results - but I can always do better! Many thanks for all your encouragement.
