15th Chasseurs a Cheval

Posted by Bill Slavin on 09 Aug 2017, 16:14

I finished these up as part of my Tudela project. The 15th Chasseurs a Cheval were part of Colbert's light cavalry brigade and saw action throughout Spain.
I wanted more of a campaign look for these, so I did a few alterations to the solid but not particularly spectacular Hat Chasseurs (only two horse poses, for instance). There was no command figure, so I did a head swap to put him in a bearskin with colpak, as was often the case, and added a sash and epaulettes. Also no dedicated trumpeter was supplied although they do give a trumpet, so a bit of alteration there (removal of carbine, added a cord). Also put some of the shakos with covers, trimmed back some plumes, and, I thought most successfully, put a number of the figures in the trooper overalls. Overall the result was so-so, but a lot of fun in the process.
So that pretty well concludes the French, other than some command stands and maybe a few more limbers. The Spanish are close to completion as well, only 30 or more figures to do - I'll share the final results when they are done.

Very well done!!! I very much like the look of the completed unit all together in a line! Also like the fact that you did the whole box at once......something I am working on remembering to do!

Very nice indeed.

For the Ligny re fight I rehorsed the Chasseurs on Hat Prussian cavalry mounts which I think look a lot better than the originals.

I also used the command and elite company figures from Newline and put them on the same Hat horses. This seemed to work well.

Best wishes,

Chris

Nice figures!

What about the buildings in the background? Where did you get them? Are they 1/72 scale?

Thanks all. Photos are looking a bit washed out, but they give the general idea. And I swear I'll never paint a unit that has orange as its piping colour again!

Matgc,
The buildings I scratch built for 1/72 gaming - which means probably a wee bit smallish but close enough.

Very nice. That reddish brown horse with light mane is interesting in particular.

Yes, I like what you've achieved with the horses too. Good work with the headswaps too! :yeah:
