Some early WWI French Infantry

After producing some Serbian infantry, I've been tackling some more WWI figures. These are Caesar Miniatures 1914 WWI French infantry figures. I think their figures are pretty darn good.

Thanks for the comments, chaps! My first time painting Caesar figures - they've impressed me a lot.

Your painting style is a natural fit for the muddy and dingy conditions of WWI. I should have thought of that and suggested it to you years ago!

I've some other WWI figures that I'm hoping to tackle soon. It's an irony that I love to paint colourful uniforms but then spend all my effort making sure that those colours aren't too vibrant and appear more muted.

When I look at those heads wearing red kepis in the firing line of the men lying prone, it makes me realise just how vulnerable these lovely French uniforms made the men on a 1914 battlefield. Those kepis are like bullseyes on a dartboard!

Unpainted I found these figures rather uninteresting, but you have made me change my opinion.... ! your figures look full of life and now I'll have another set on my wanted list.

The blog entry and discussion about these figures is well worth a visit. One of you commentators suggested heating the plastic rifles on a stove top to get them to straighten. Boiling water works better and is far less hazardous to modelor and plastic figure, I have found. Just dip the offending rifle/pike/spear/antenna/limb into the hot water, leave it there for 20 seconds or so, then bring it out of the water and pull it out in a straight line from the figure to the desired position. It will cool and reset in the new position.

For Caesar figures, an even better idea is to swap out the weapons (and almost always oversized hands) for those of another manufacturer.

Very nice & era characteristic paint job ably & authentically implemented on the already excellent Caesar figures.

Bought several boxes myself last December and agree that they are far better than the mediocre Hät Poilus.
Hope that Caesar will gradually expand their hitherto slim WWI range. Following their own catalogue the logical next sets could be early German & late French infantry. Wouldn’t mind if they would add early war Austro-Hungarians & Russians in their great sculpting style as well.
