OrctoberFest, and a challenge to come

Posted by PhilC on 20 Oct 2018, 18:11

Orctober is the month of the Orcs! I like to see on various blogs that some painters take time to paint to worst and less appreciated creatures in Fantasy - Orcs and other Goblins.

This is my contribution to this tradition, and I would like to share it here.

Paul encouraged me to do so, and suggested that we might onboard other members of this forum to show their own orcish figures. I guess it might too late for this year (unless some of you already have such figures ready), but I would like to propose a challenge in 2019: starting on the 20th of July, you have 72 days to paint 1/72 Orcs before the 1st of October.

What do you think of it ? Any people interested ? Just an occasion to have some fun with nasty little creatures

Yes, how did you find out ? On the last picture, it's me, this morning on the battlefield, as I just realized that I was compelled to eat with my mother-in-law this evening !!

Hello

this is funny. No idea what connects Orcs to Octoberfest.
The last Orc is great - definitely he had to much beer.
The idea to have an Orc painting orgy is good. I fear there are no more figures to get - all sold out, no?

Happy collecting

Thank you for your comment, I really like the idea of an Orc painting orgy :)

One letter is missing and the meaning is different. My post is related to ORctoberfest

I join the challenge, PhilC. I haven't painted any orcs so far, but if you let us know in July 2019, I will try to paint some for October. For example, any Orc of one of my future projects: the last Alliance against Sauron. :yeah:

Best regards.

Santi.

As asked on another forum (Addict Figurines, french language: http://www.addict-figurines.com/), I took a few pictures in order to compare the size of the Dark Alliance Orcs with ordinary 1/72 humans.

Here you are - the reference human comes from Caesar adventurers set:

Great entry Susofrick! I think I recognize some Mithril Orcs (rectangular bases, that helps :)), but I don't know where those who have oval bases come from, I am curious.

Thanks! The oval bases are Prince August. Still have the moulds somewhere in the cellar.

Big Boyz are always there too where a Orc horde is! :)

I also recognised the old venerable Mitrhil, I have also some of them

As they are true 25mm, they are close enough to 172 to play the biggest brute types,

Suso, Can you please make closeups and maybe comparison of Pr. August orcs? I bought also some 2nd hand moulds of dwarves (quite beautiful sculpts and almost match 1/72, they are my dwarf paladins) and sekeletons (this case not so useful..too big even for me..)

If a get inspired I will post also some comparison pics of 1/72 boyz with GW plastic Mordor and Moria orcs which are also a good and not-expensive addition for numbers and variery when you use smaller bases than GW slotta clasical base..

:coffee: Well I realise I`m a bit slow on the up take these days,
but why not paint those wonderful ugly things now?
I might have gone up the chimney by this time next year. ;-)

:sst: and all us smillies on the forum would again remain in total silence.

:coffee: I wish I could`ve thought of saying that. BB
