Seleucid Cataphracts for Magnesia

Posted by ToneTW on 25 Apr 2019, 23:44

My most recently finished unit of old Seleucid Cataphracts from Newline and one of my 'updating' projects. When I first got back into painting 1/72 I made use of block painting, brown wash and done. However they were dark and dull, so now I generally paint with brighter colours, brown wash then highlight (usually in the original colour). The other aspect of updating old projects is mounting singly based troops onto unit bases.

All that armour makes them look very large for those horses.
However, fantastic painting style on these heavies.
Nice bases too. BB

:xd: :xd: :xd: I will get saving too! I may have to raid a few temples on route, which always ends well for Hellenistic kings :P

Tempting as it is to order more I am hanging on for some future Hellenistic lines (fingers crossed!)

Fantastic paintjob indeed, they look splendid! This flashy appearance is exactly the effect that was intended to impress the enemy; this is one of the best paintjobs on metal surfaces that I've ever seen.
And yet, the Romans will win the battle hehe ...

Terrific paintjob, these really make an impression. :yeah:

They are an intimidating bunch, I think the metal face masks are particularly unsettling. They have a dehumanising effect and make them look just so casually malignant. No point looking warm and cuddly on the battlefield I suppose.

Cheers guys!

The face masks would be intimidating, they must have depended on that psychological shock. Fighting in all that armour couldn't have been a lengthy affair.

Unfortunatley for Antiochus and his Cataphracts he was up against Romans who just fought the long and bitter Hannibalic War they were not that easily intimidated!

At first I thought they were unfinished because of the metal faces. Then I took a closer look! Maybe the most intimidating ancient cavalry I have ever seen...
