Napoleonic Wars Italian and British Infantry

Posted by Rosbif on 01 May 2019, 01:41

Hi all,

Even though I haven't been active on my blog or this forum for a very long time ( :( :-x ), I haven't been idle.

My Neapolitan project has been put on hold (but I will get back to it soon) and I have started thinking about building the Allied order of battle for the Battle of Albuera, 1811. In the meantime I've added a couple of battalions to fill some gaps in my wargaming armies.

My Italian infantry have lacked a Light Infantry battalion for quite some time now, so I rectified the problem painting the 1st regiment of light infantry using HaT's French light infantry figures. Those of you familiar with these sets might spot a couple of changes; I've given the officer and voltiguer head swaps so that they are wearing shakos.

The British battalion is a heterogeneous unit using figures from Strelets, HaT and Waterloo 1815, but all figures have heads from the HaT Peninsular War British Infantry set. Besides the Strelets figures' overly chunky muskets, I think the conversions worked quite well!

Very nice! The colourful, stylish Italians do look rather splendid.

Great painting on the British too, I think the various figures work very well together.

Great job! Can you tell me more about your Italian project? I also like to add Italian troops to my Grande Armée. I made a quick check around and found not much information. Also, which figures have you used? Thanks

Very nice indeed.

It is lovely that you have reflected campaign conditions by dirtying them up a little.

Try keep white trousers white in bad weather never mind sleeping in a field with them!

Excellent.

Best wishes,

Chris

Thanks all!
@Mr. Andrea, I've been using the Napitalia website as a reference for my Italian units. As the only difference between French infantry and infantry form the Kingdom of Italy was the uniform colour, any French infantry figures can be used. In this instance, the figures are from HaT's French Light Infantry sets:
8218 1808-12 French Light Inf Voltigeurs
8219 1808-12 French Chasseurs (Marching)
8220 1808-12 French Light Inf Carabiniers
8251 1808-12 French Chasseurs Action
8252 1808-12 French Chasseurs Command

Thanks a ton, Rosbif. Very interesting and useful information. I see my countrymen didn't make it to Waterloo.

All very nice work. I find the HaT French light, although well posed, have lightly raised detailing, but you have done a really nice job in painting them up as Italians.

The Italians did saunter down to Spain in the Franco-Italian Division of nearly 6000 troops. It was a very harsh cruel campaign fought in the icy mountain passes of the high Pyrenees.
