I was finally able to get back to my painting table this month and thought I would tackle some Spanish 1808 light infantry, the Tiradores de Doyle. This unit will feature in an upcoming game (Alcaniz) that I will be playing in March so it seemed like a good time to get them done. I wanted a different look from the ubiquitous brown uniforms I have been painting most of my 1808 Spanish militia/infantry in up until now so this was a nice break.
The Tiradores de Doyle were a unit originally raised as Batallon de la Reunion de Osera. Its name was changed on August 10, 1808 by the Aragonese Captain General José de Palafox to honour the English agent Charles Doyle who arrived in Zaragoza and helped organize and take command of the battalion.
There is more information about this unit along with photos here on my blog if you are interested.
