Rebased Scythians

Posted by Fire at Will on 16 Jan 2020, 08:15

As part of working on my Persian army I decided to rebase my Scythians so I could use them as part of that army. I'm quite pleased with the way they have turned out. As originally based they looked far too consistent with all the identical poses, but now the contrasting colours seem to dominate

The figures are Rospak hard plastic from their Greek light infantry pack

I had modified some into horse archers with a upper body swap with the Greek cavalry.

Of course I look at the Petasts/Psiloi behind and wonder if bebasing will have the same effect on them!

Typically I found the missing 20 figures when I was putting these away.

Here's some on the original basing

Beautiful and colourful army! I still have a lot of respect dealing with the clothes of the Persian Army and all allies.

Those patterns on clothing are really good.

Hi, like you basing a lot!
Also the colorful patterns on the Warriors. I 've also got some project like this in mind since the 1st Persians hit the market. But that color schemes still scare me off trying :-(.

A little tip to get more deepness if you want. Use washes / inks for the faces. Gives more impression to the faces. I'd also use light brown wash for clothes and wooden weapons.

Cheers, Photoro

All, my next step, as part of my late Achaemenid Persian army is to upgrade the hoplites

A) reorganise in units of 16 figures rather than 24
b) upgrade the figures with better shield decals (Little Big Men)
C) rebase the figures
D) Maybe give the figures a light wash to bring out the details

Agree with the others about the clothes! Marvelous! And agree with Photoro Man about the anonymous faces. Maybe a beard here and there. But that would probably put their barber out of work and he would be forced to start a singing male-quartet!
