My dear hobby friends,
after a year of construction I would like to introduce my new project to you.

It is a part of the film "She wore a yellow ribbon" (in German "Der Teufelshauptmann")
I love this movie, with John Wayne, since my childhood and the so heroically shown us cavalrymen.[/i]

Inspired by an illustration by Andrea-Miniatures ...



... I got the idea to recreate a small scene from the Hollywood classic.



After some search on the internet, I quickly found something.
Because the building which served as a movie set, is still to be seen in the US at Goulding's Lodge (Monument Valley).



I wanted to play as much as possible a scene from the beginning of the film ...
Captain Brittles is on his way to the morning inspection when the hijacked stagecoach arrives ...

... this should look something like this.

The realism of worn out, used look of the house is fantastic. As the house itselve is well made.
Also the nature or what surwive around the house is good.
Also all the letter on boxes etc.

Many small things that make the four edge frame "round".

Only the figures are too blue, yellow for my taste.

Hand made figures. Scratch house and bits. Only the horses are made out of a mold?
99% selve made!

A impressive work rich of small details.

Fantastic modelling and the figures are superb.

Wiking has a point about the vivid colours but that might be the lighting as I know you are a perfectionist in these matters.

why I chose stronger colors ...
The movie takes place shortly after the battle of the "Little Big Horn" in 1876,
but I think the uniforms in the film weren't displayed properly.
With correct presentation, the soldiers would have had to wear the M-1872 Greatcoat,
which is indeed made of sky blue wool. Even the cape was of the same color and not yellow.





Since dark blue coats were worn in the movie, I think it can only be that the actors wear the M-1885/87 coat.



My little scene should reproduce the film as accurate as possible,
that's why I chose the darker blue and the stronger yellow.

Below is a description of the used material and colors.

" 1885 ENLISTED GREATCOAT- In 1885 in an effort to get less color variation from dye lot to dye lot in the lighter blue wool used for trousers and greatcoats, the Army changed the “old standard” sky blue wool (still left over from the Civil War era) to a new darker shade- closer to a Royal Blue.
This greatcoat is made from heavy weight Medium Blue wool, with a detachable cape and colored cape lining to denote branch of service. The coat has a dark blue wool body lining to the waist, cotton sleeve linings and two inside pockets. The “new style” 1883 buttons are used.



In 1887 the Cavalry trim color was changed to a darker yellow (almost orange) color,

I did not expect just for my opinion an answer. Nor so long and detailed.

John Wayne is the Captain Future of my youth for (Western) Cowboy film.
He is the only one who is allowed to ride on a horse against four bad guys and shoot with his pistol in on hand and in the other with is rifle. And hit nearly all of them.
Or as a sheriff with an old man a lush and some dynamite he free the city from over 40 gangster.
