War of Spanish Succession

Here are my first attempts at Strelets new series of WSS sets. These figures are taken from the British, In Advance, In Attack and Firing Line sets. I aim to paint one of each of the poses to start with (minus some of the command figures). These figures represent the 1st Foot Guards and the uniform details are taken from two of the Osprey Publishing series. I noticed that there is contradicting information regarding uniform details, in particular with the yellow lace on the front of the jackets. I'm sure the uniform I've gone for is not 100% accurate, but who cares...! Marvin recently posted pictures of his fine efforts with these figures and I did keep reverting back to his pictures for inspiration (so thanks to him for posting his fantastic looking figures!). I will get around to the French set at some point as well as they look like nice figures, although I have not purchased them yet. Hopefully Strelets will continue releasing more sets for this era as they have done some very nice figures so far. Thanks for looking.

Really nice job on these guys Rich. Great choices on the colors and very tight work on painting all the fiddly details even going so far as to do the eyeballs which I don't even dare to attempt. Excellent work!

Those are very cool. Perfect color choice. Interesting how traditional the British Army was for hundreds of years. The color scheme of the First Foot was much the same during the WSS all the way to the Napoleonic Wars and beyond.

Here are some French Infantry from Strelets. They depict the 'Royal Regiment' who fought in the village of Blenheim during that famous battle. Sources are conflicting over French uniforms and I have read accounts that this regiment had silver lace hats and yellow lace. Feedback is always welcome. Thanks!

Seeing these splendidly painted figures I can see why people rave about the beauty of the uniforms in this period. They are a magnificent sight.

I'm very impressed by the Garter Star on the cartridge boxes, and by the white uniforms of the French troops.

Excellent figures again! I think you've hit the white-grey / grey-white / greyish-white / whitish-grey sweet spot on their uniforms that I'm always searching for. I also like your treatment with the faces very much.

I notice the cartridge boxes are brown - which you're correct about. "Apparently, the cover was brown and bore the royal crest".

But now I'm annoyed with you because I now have to go and repaint all my Frenchmen!

Normally this era is not really my cup of tea. But the Battle of Blenheim (or Battle of Höchstädt as we call it here) took place in Bavaria. So I am thinking about doing a small diorama with this real good Strelets-stuff. Your´s is looking excellent, Rich. So this makes me even more "hungry".

By the way, the real name of the village the battle was named after is "Blindheim", not "Blenheim".....it still exists today.
