Playing Around With The Scrap Paper Card.

Well there is always lots of off cuts that could or can be used.
and one starts with a mess and also finishes with one.

N railway scale absailed down into my fancy after talking to a friend on ZOOM!

And so it was i decided to look into it. You Know? Make a sample!
Well i have indeed lots of confined time to use in a constructive way.

Now there are angles of this and that to consider... true, but no mater the scale one does,the angles of a house remain the same. Be it drawn an inch high or even larger.



This Topsy Turvy, part was of course upside down.



Cut down the middle but not right through the card.
Then two angle cuts one alongside each will allow it to fold.



Just when i thought i was doing oddly well,another cut and marked out piece arrived upon such a scene where little counts for nothing if it was all cut wrong.



This one got the same sort of slopping slice as the one before.
i actually cut several out before,,, before proceeding along this tiny unknown pathway.



A sweet little thing,
and another that is far from being without its faults!



Yes a slice off along the roof on the left needs doing.



Better to have something to cut off than it be to short.



For now i'll simply use this as a base.



A door, where is it?
Well i a-door it as it is.



See that edge?
Yes slight trimming required? very true.



i feel comfy showing small mistakes, because they can be rectified and show my self taught learning curb of making due with what one has at any one given time.

The thing is i have no figures in n scale,but who knows perhaps another collection to strain me poor o`ll eyes might be forth coming? Perhaps i could show N, n scale loco? BB

Looking Backwards Again

Here are the other prebuilt bits and pieces.



Using the ruler to keep it square.



The card held flat against the the end wall and the rulers square end
helps keep the added side wall true.



The rough rendering look can be achieved by simply peeling off the facing paper.
Or indeed leave it on for a cool flat effect.



The actual size is 5 cm X 3 cm X 3 cm ht



The little cottage flipped now nestles nicely into place on the Brecon Beacons S Wales...
and smiles at Pen y Fan, and all the special forces who sweat profusely climbing it.
My own selection there many years ago when i was fit and wiry was no toddle.



To even up each side of this roof overhang, i've stuck two white
pieces of card into place to plug up the gap.

i hope they'll paint up well. if they don't its not a big deal, after all it is just plainly size related. BB

How can ya get more from less? asked a very perplexed n puzzled Wing Nut.

It is simply a play upon the sounds of letters and numbers.

Sure it is,
and below is how using less paper on each smaller scale building ,
i could make even more from using a lot less. Eh!

n that does not mean bb will do such a crazy one handed thing.



Out of one sheet of paper card costing £3.50 i could make one 28mm cottage,
or four 1/72 scale cottages
or 86 simple n scale cottages.





i took a few days off from scratch building but the parts now needed have been cut,scribed,painted and dry brushed. So this rough tough paper card is to be stuck upon both sides later.

The day arrived sunny fresh and full of bright winged bird song, and it saw me cutting and scribing out the front and back beams which hopefully will make this cottage *Pop!*
It is a slow process of measuring and then fixing them into some type of construction pattern,
that sort of looks right to the average passing eye.



So as always painting and dry brushing is quite a dirty job,but once the fiddle is strung one has to dance along with the tune.



Which means continue to methodically plod along with the next part of the build. Although it is far from being orderly because i make a lot of mess. Which i consider to be part of my fun.

i must admit that i took time off from the scratch - building topic above,because i got a mind block and every time i tried to work out a pattern of construction things just did not look right. My mind was blank. So i did other stuff some of which i've shown and other secret shenanigans.
So i left it all to another day when i felt it was ,*A OK*, to proceed.

Stone and brick will be painted last,and i'll find a base for it to sit upon.

To sip the cup of kindness while helping others
we might know are in need at this time,
can be an awfully big adventure.

With most of the outside walls nearly finished, the time finally arrived to draw and cut out the shapes of the inner walls. Other bits and slight of hand pieces will also be added to the inside a little later,but just for now my focus is upon the two walls that create the very odd hallway running through this building one side to the other. They also bring into being and help shape the two ground floor rooms.



i double sided each one by sticking them to another piece of paper card. After cutting them out a small oblong platform was fixed into place by glue, then i added skirting top and bottom using two strips of paper on each wall. These will be freestanding removable features.

i painted these a bright yellow and while they were still wet i blended in white in a slap dash way,because i want these walls to look both aged and old. More paint will be added later.
It's a BB fun thing where differing colors show through each dirty layer. EH?

A little extra work was carried out upon each door adding that which is most normal, and in this case it being a wee bit fiddly but not at all complicated.



The dress makers pins make good door handles. Each was painted,glued up, pushed through each door and the other side snipped off cleanly using my craft clippers.

The doorstep slab of concrete was quick to pour out upon a scene such as that above,but moving ever onwards and upwards another scribed out idea might well add more interest for the roving eyes to settle upon.



So once again the Rifleman from Wellingtons army sets the scale nicely,and he seems content with the scribed out,painted paper card.



interestingly i wonder what all this might actually turn out to be? BB

Now i never buy washes to grime a few walls or indeed fresh painted ceilings, because i use that from my paintbrush tub. It is sort of free and you could say constantly on tap.



The plaster upon the ceiling was ready,set, go... for change.



And for sure it did change in a matter of mere wet down seconds.



Of course i never can really visualize what any outcome might be, so it is always an instant surprise as the reaction to any of the freshly painted walls take place. The aged old grimy look.




Straight from the tub to help age a certain crusty grime upon these fresh painted new walls.
Yes there being no great skill involved or in fact needed i used all three brushes with rather dirty faced complexions at the self same time.



On it went to grime up a two walled patch either side of this very strange hallway. A place ingrained with mystery its self on all of its creaking cryptic parts.

It was there a very strange clock once stood that ticked well away a drum beat every second of each of its days. The Rifleman knew it well and more to the point what it really was.
Home for good after the Wellington wars he would find very little peace because of the share scale of those days of enormous black thunder.



The overhead beams plopped one at a time into their allotted space...



... as another broad daylight scheme entered into that void deep set between my ears
