Waterloo Squares

Posted by Captain Sibourne on 17 Aug 2020, 17:10

Dear All,

My Waterloo project has recently focussed on Plancenoit, but I've now got quite a large syndicate of painters and contributors helping our with the diorama. Here are two recent squares.

First of all, the 3rd Belgian Line Battalion in Aubreme's Dutch Brigade:

And secondly the Bremervorde Battalion of Hew Halkett's Hanoverian Militia Brigade:

And finally, all the squares together. This is about half the allied order of battle to the west of the main cross roads.

Whoa! I knew you were planning on having a large number of units but this looks like 1 - 1 representation. Hard to imagine it was actually far more than what you show here. Brilliant job on the painting, I particularly love the capture Polish lancer. It's those little touches that add so much to every piece involved. Looks fantastic! The end result will no doubt be out of this world.

A lot of hard work here.

I too like the lancer prisoner.

It’s a nice touch.

Best wishes,

Chris

Thanks all! You will detect that the prisoner is a German Airfix WW1 figure with an Esci head.

More of the Captain’s min-boggling squares and Mr. Dodson’s fabulous dioramas, all on the same day! Christmas come early - the two of you, to my mind, epitomize the beautiful madness of our collective hobby.

Thanks Bill, Mr D is a major inspiration for my project. I don't really do my work much justice with my photography - this is largely because I'm simply showing pieces of the diorama in production, whereas he realises each vignette with exquisite care and attention. In their amateurish way, my photos at least reveal my mistakes - my drum major's mace needs a different pin head - far too big!
