Prussian Horse Artillery Battery

Posted by Captain Sibourne on 22 Aug 2020, 07:05

Here is the latest from my painting consortium, a Prussian Horse Artillery battery. Not only is it very nicely painted but it shows the amount of space it would have taken up.

The figures are a mix of Art Miniaturen, Franznap and some Hat. I'm keeping things anonymous, but I'm really grateful to the painter.

Congrats !
Wonderfull to see a whole battery ! and the painting is quite nice
Just Two questions :
They all seems pretty close to each other, did you put them at the right distance (from one canon axle tree to another) ?
It seems you put one howitzer at each end of the battery, was it a common thing in prussian artillery ?

Those look great! It's so good to see that people are stepping up to the plate and helping out with this remarkable project.

Many thanks Bill! he's now going to do a full Prussian horse battery, but mounted - it's going to be interesting sourcing the figures more mounted Prussian horse gunners.

I've also got two full British batteries in preparation - Bull's (Howitzers) and Sandham's (9lb). A fourth painter is doing a 40 gun section of the French Grand Battery.

Chris, the figures are fitted to the table and are there for parade, not tactical, reasons. I'm not sure about the Prussian doctrine on the positioning of guns. Any one with any knowledge on this?

Very impressive indeed! Quite the paint job on these artillery too; 97 horses, 80 -some men, 8 limbers, 8 cannon, 2 wagons and 6 caissons all done to a fine degree. Lots of dry brush work to bring out a cohesive look making this a pretty remarkable accomplishment. I'd certainly want the credit were I the painter but they are a rare and humble person to remain anonymous. This will make a big impression on the finished diorama I am sure.

Congratulations to the painter of these for maintaining such a high standard over such vast quantities. Makes you appreciate how much space on the field these batteries would have taken up.
