British 43rd

Posted by Bill Slavin on 07 Sep 2020, 15:14

I've decided to build Crawford's Light Infantry Division and thought I would start with the 43rd Light Infantry. These figures are the Italeri Waterloo British set, a really fine set in my estimation and well suited to conversion to Peninsular as half wear stovepipe shakos. Unfortunately many of the figures with shoulder wings wear Belgic shakos but with head swaps from the extras supplied from the HaT Peninsular British I was able to give them the stovepipe shako. Other than that, only the ensigns are conversions, keeping it fairly simple by having the regimental flag bearer remain a sergeant.
With the 95th Rifles previously completed next up will be the 1st and 3rd Portuguese Caçadores (traditionally brigaded with the Light Division) and finally the 52nd.

The final two pictures are with the figures (paired on magnetic bases) broken up in skirmish formation.

Very nice as always Bill.

Super background building, highly evocative of the Peninsulat.

Best wishes,

Chris

Another great addition to your growing Peninsular War armies, Bill, so well painted as all the previous units.

First class paint job, as always. :notworthy:

Congratulations.

Bill Slavin--

How much time have you spent touring the Spanish countryside for Penninsular battle sites? I have never been, but our fellows on the forum who have say you have evoked the scenery and backdrop of the real thing to an uncanny degree. In my opinion, they are likely correct. For one thing, they are, to a man, smart enough to realize that modeling and painting miniatures is the best hobby on earth. For another, they joined this forum.

Thanks, all, for the kind comments.
Aaron, I couldn’t agree more with your assessment of the members of this fine forum.
As for the backgrounds, my wife is Portuguese so we have spent quite a bit of time travelling around Portugal, especially the north and northeast, which I love. So I suppose that experience has influenced my work.
Not so much in Spain, but I look forward to going back once Covid is over and exploring the battlefields on the Spanish/Portuguese border - would love to get up into Galicia and northern Spain as well. Some day...
