WSS Imagination project

Posted by Huggy on 03 Nov 2020, 19:31

Well I have been busy painting up some Strelets WSS figs for my imaginations project. I present a lousy photo of the 1st Groenstadt Fusiliers regiment. I have also painted up some of their opponents, loyal soldiers of the Protecterat Gris , but still loads to do.

I ran out of dull coat just before the project but the gloss finish gives them a kind of lacquered toy soldier vibes. So might leave it that way.

My painting is best appreciated from a few feet away with sub-optimal lighting. :xd:

Seriously, my painting isn't that impressive but I'll try to get some close-ups sometime in the future. That means setting up some stuff because of my crappy telephone camera really is really crappy.

The point of being here is to have fun, not to impress someone :xd:
More pictures and/or closeups would be welcome so we can enjoy your work.
No one should be ashamed of his figures if he enjoyed while painting.

Welcome to the forum.

@Huggy

You should see the figures I posted when I first joined this forum a few years back. Yikes!

But the guys here on Bennos were patient with me and gave me lots of positive feedback and tips. Now I can paint a figure to a decent enough degree that I even win a duel occasionally!

And from what I can see your WSS guys look just fine. If you want to avoid that shiny look, I suggest watering down your paints prior to application.

The shine is due to a gloss varnish finish. Normally I follow up with a dull varnish coat to take the shine off, but I am all out of dull coat. But I kind of like the shiny look on these WSS figs. So might leave it that way.

That's a lot of coats. I am a little more low-maintence than that. I usually just prime then paint with one part paint, one part matte finish, and one part water for acrylics. It is fun to experiment around with different techniques. Of course if the figures end up the way you preferred, that is very good!
