KNIL in action at Lombok 1894

The Lombok expedition was one of the bloodiest operations of the Royal Netherlands Indies Army (KNIL)
The Dutch army severed heavy losses. In 1894 reinforcements from Java arrived and only after that the Balinese insurgents could be defeated.
I made this little dio using Esci British infantry of the Zulu wars. With some minor artistic freedom I could use them as KNIL soldiers.
The Dio is made on an old metal lid of a glass jar. I used Das clay and Hegi grass for the little hill.
Painting is done in acrylics

I feel me a little like the Balinese insurgents.
The KNIL is far away.

Maybe one Balinese scout with a camera can sneak up a bit closer ?

Sorry, I have no closer pics. Maybe you can enlarge the pictures a bit. But I doubt if the pictures will be sharp enough then.
It's 1/72 scale. Difficult to get closer. Most of the time you see all kind of blobs and not as many details like with 1/32.

I fixed the pictures. When you look at the picture code you will see an s with some figures after it. I've changed them from 320 to 800.

Nice Dutch colonial theme, Paul. Well painted, nice vignette.

Your perspective is also very colonial.
The "heavy losses" in the beginning of the fight were less than 100 KNIL soldiers, due to sloppy security and operations. As a revenge the Dutch colonial authorities sent 8000 military, burning down villages, killing local population and stealing lots of gold and other valuables. Clasic brutal colonial supression of opposition.
