Good morning, dear fellow painters and modellers, and thank you again for your warm comments :-)

After the Roman Empire, we travel through space and time (without goat) to reach the New World in the 19th century. For Day 8, let's have a look at ACW Zouaves.

Image

These are old Hät figures released at the end of the 90s, and they have been on my desk since that period! Three of them are painted at last.

More pictures and comments here: https://philotepsfigures.blogspot.com/2020/12/2020-advent-calendar-day-8.html

See you soon ;-)

Good old memories of that period, long ago. And I do not think about the ACW.

Very colorful Zouaves. I found out a lot about them when one was a subject of one of my monthly duels. I did not realize that there were various Zouave units on both sides of the ACW.

And I found out more about my Dilettante Ephemere No. 52 when I bit into it. Tasty!

Thank you again for following and commenting this thread!

A new winter scene today (it's easier to imagine when you haven't seen the sun for weeks), as we open the 9th window of the Advent Calendar.

Day 9: Northmen!
Image

New recruits, by Zvezda and Strelets, of fierce warrior for my Viking warband. The poor men defending their village are a Valdemar palstic peasant, and a venerable Airfix archer.

Not fed up ? See you tomorrow

I really like the effort you put into this! It is not only about showing some painted minis but creating a nice environment to achieve very nice photos of your work! Keep them coming!!!

Actually it's nice to imagine those winter scenes when the reality here looks more like day six; your Northmen are a very cool breeze. 8)

I loved the cromlech, the muslim warriors, and the sea peoples too.

I'm also enjoying the sub plot which is quite a mystery. How does a man with two young boys get to eat advent calendar chocolate? and when did advent calendar chocolates go so up market?

I think this is the best advent calender. And I agree with Graeme about the subplot!

Fun advent picture for December 9, thanks PhillC. You tell a moving story with your picture. Those two poor peasant soldiers are very likely to fair poorly, but they are making a stand nonetheless. Perhaps to buy time for their wives and children to hide in the forest?

As for me, another entry in white chocolate with Jaquot a Paris. Everyone in my family has their own advent calendar: small cosmetic samples for the wife, holiday shaped milk chocolates with bible verses for the boys. It is working out well.

Hmm, thanks to your flag, I know where I will spend my next Christmas holidays... If I ever can travel again

That's the point, exactly! All minis were painted earlier during this year, and the real challenge is to imagine a new scene every day... with a limited set of scenery elements! That's why I have to hurry to paint some new things, such as the Arab house ;-)

It's time for a new picture in this Calendar.

For Day 10, some new invaders:
Image

These three guys represent Uruk-hai commander, musician and flagbearer. They're here to command my small Uruk Hai warband in another fight.

When will this calendar see a day of peace, at last ?

Any hobbit would start running away as fast as their little legs could carry them at the sight of your ferocious Uruk-hai.

As for me, chocolote covered cherry from Swiss Dilece.

Thank you again !!

I wrote yesterday that a peaceful scene would fit an Advent Calendar perfectly. Her we are, at last!
For Day 11, let's listen to the beat of an African drum:

Image

This drummer is located in Central Africa. He's playing a sort of drum called Ngoma.

The oldest among you will have recognized a figure from the Tarzan set made by Airfix in 1968.

Hope you like this break ;-)

There's many a fine tune played on an old Ngoma. Lovely rendition of an ageless Airfix figure

The painting of the thatched roof is as good as I've ever seen. :yeah:
