Lovely scene(s)! I am curious what paint you used for the metallic colors? They look very realistic to me.
Thanks for sharing :yeah: :yeah:

There are always several steps in my painting method, here you are.

1. Iron
- the first layer is painted with GW Boltgun Metal
- I add a layer of dark brown wash
- I lighten with GW Mithril Silver

GW stands for Games Workshop, acrylic paints.
If you want to add rust, you will need black wash, dark brown and red brown spots.

2. Brass
- First layer of Revell Gold (enamel paint, the GW acrylic Gold isn't good IMO)
- layer of dark brown wash
- enlightenment with Revel Gold
- 2nd enlightenment with Mithril Silver on some spots if necessary

The corrosion is made with a mix of blue, green and white, several layers with more and more white.

Here's an example of corrosion for Iron, Bronze and Copper:

Hope it helps :)

Thanks for the information :-D I really appreciate it.
I must give it a try since my own metal paints never quite impress me.

The paiting on the gladiators is the best work in this year calendar, imho.

Those gladiators are extraordinarily well done. Some of the best I have seen. I almost choked on my almond rocha, they were so good.

Thank you again, all of you, and good morning :-)

For Day 17 of the Advent Calendar, we remain in the Roman world at the time of the Republic. Let's have a look at Samnites warriors.

Image

The Samnites were of confederation of Italian tribes that lived in the mountain area north of Naples. They fought Three wars with the Romans between the 4th and the 3rd century BC for the control of Central Italy, and were eventually defeated. They revolted and became Allied to Hannibal during the 2nd Punic war.

More explanations and pictures here: https://philotepsfigures.blogspot.com/2020/12/2020-advent-calendar-day-17.html

Figures by Hät (before I put a hand on the figures by Linear).

See you soon ;-)

Another top notch open door in the calendar. The shields are great.

I really like this old HäT set, because I am interested in the Samnites-topic. Consequently I join the crowd waiting for Linear-A as well.

Wonderful Samnites and you have evoked the mountainous region of Northen Italy with your backdrop.

Peach Bellini chocolate truffle was a perfect compliment. Getting closer!

Good morning and thank you once again :-)

For the 18th day of the calendar, I propose to have a look at a mythological creature.

Image

We can see a Centaur fighting against some Thracian Peltasts. The Centaur is armed like a Hoplite, with round shield, bronze helmet and linothorax (linen armor). The Thracian are easily identified by their typical patterned cloaks.

Why in winter ? Because it is an allusion to a famous painting by Angus McBride - Greeks warriors at fight with Thracians in the snow.

More here: https://philotepsfigures.blogspot.com/2020/12/2020-advent-calendar-day-18.html

The Centaur is a Dark Alliance figure - a nightmare regarding the trimming of the mold line, but a real pleasure to paint. Thracians by Hät and Zvezda.

See you tomorrow ;-)

Beautifil work for today's entry! At first I thought the Thracians would be too cold but a close examination reveals they have enough warm cloths and sturdy boots to get by.

My chocolate was a Liqueur de Café

Good morning, thank you, I'm in a hurry!

For day 19 of the calendar, let's have a look at some British troops.
Image

These guys belong to the 95th Rifle regiment during the Napoleonics war. This scene is (loosely) inspired by the wonderful pictures made by Bill Slavin about the Peninsula War (go have a look at his Dragoon Regiment if you haven't already seen them).
These men are defending a small field surrounded by hences, with fruit trees in the background... it could be very peaceful, but for some reason, their rest is disturbed by a troop of people not happy to find them in this field. Who can it be ? The owner of the field, maybe ?
