Desert Stuka

Posted by Fire at Will on 09 Mar 2021, 14:47

When I first saw the kit with a snake running along its length I knew I had to have one and when it came up on cheap on ebay late last year the deed was done. I assembled it very slowly while I couldn't paint because of my broken collar bone.

It's an Italeri model depicting an aircraft from 6/Sturtzkampfgeschwader 2 "Immelmann" based at Timini Libya 1941.

I nearly can hear the howling of the sirens while diving down on the target. Great model!

:-D :-D :yeah:

A nice model and well constructed and painted given your injuries, Will. Also an outstanding example of WW2 aircraft artwork...that is some snake. The ground-crew artists must have had quite a talent amongst them.

Now...somewhere in my stash I think I have an old model of a JU87 'tank buster'...maybe time to dig it out and build it!

I seem to remember pictures of this snake design from years ago.

Very nice indeed and evocative of the desert war .

You just can not imagine the RAF doing this sort of thing.

Steady on old chap.

Best wishes,

Chris

Uncle Joe agrees, no snakes or sharks for the RAF, just cranky dictators :xd: Image

Romanian WW2-era aircraft sometimes included nose art of Mickey Mouse, as well as other Disney characters.

Very nice. I love this camouflage scheme: desert sand over the European two-tone green splinter scheme.

Really good point about the Kittyhawks.

I believe the RAF frowned upon this practise in general apart from kills and bomb scores.

Tally Ho.

Best wishes,
