June 5, 1989 - the Tankman

Posted by praga on 09 Mar 2021, 11:24

Another little gimmick - I want to reduce my "stocks". The two tanks are diecast models from Atlas. Repainted and rebuilt by me. The man is assembled from Preiser parts. I made me not too much effort, and it's only one figure - sorry.

What changes did you do to the tanks?

Just one figure is just right. That's a great homage to a powerful image.

Great & unusual topic.

Royal Model from Italy just recently released a 1/72 resin figure of the unknown 'Tienanmen 1989' Tank Man. ;-)

Of course, your Preiser figure is a really convincing alternative for this iconic scene.

Wow what a powerful scene.

Your figure is great, Jens, but if you swap him out for the Royal Models guy the little scene will look even better.

A great scene of history, which you have adapted very impressive in 1/72. I remember very well this scene in Pekin of 1989. The man who dared to stop a long row of tanks only with his body. Nobody knows who he was and what happened with him after the brutal suppression of the democratic movement in China.
I have critized a former diorama of yours, but this diorama is well choosen and made.

Yes, its quite emotional for all who have seen this scene on tv so often, to see it represented in a model. Very well done. Only a pity you didn't sand away the casting seam on the barrels.

I removed the additional tanks and filled the holes and gaps. And I attached the antenna. That's all.

As I wrote above - I didn't put that much work into the models. I still had this two T55 diecast models and was thinking about how best to install them.

Grazie for the compliments.
