26th French Dragoons

Posted by Bill Slavin on 13 Mar 2021, 14:45

Still catching up on posting my winter's painting!

These are the 26th French Dragoons, figures by italeri. Without a doubt, this is one of my favourite itlaeri sets and they are always a pleasure to paint. Their facings are orange, always a tricky colour I find, and it comes out a bit pink in these photos.

They made their debut on my gaming table this winter (bottom photo) standing in as part of Junot's provisional dragoons present at the battle of Vimeiro Hill, making up the fourth unit of French dragons I needed for this scenario. Predictably they fared badly...

Lovely as always Bill.

Nice to see waves of these fellows on the battle.

The ‘Grand Manner’ is what Napoleonic is all about in my opinion.

Keep up the good work.

Best wishes,

Chris

Thanks, Chris. I agree about the “Grand Manner”. I began my Napoleonic gaming with a much more abstracted scale, but converted to Over the Hills just because I like the look of big battalions and skirmishers represented on the table.

Your somewhat impressionistic style (meant as a compliment) suites these figures quite well.

The orange looks orange to me. When I mix my occasional oranges, I find that a small bit of red goes a long way.

Thanks, Aaron. I would never take my work being described as impressionistic to be a bad thing. :-)
I do tend to blob on colour...

It is always a pleasure to see new posts from you! And I totally agree about massed formations. But I need a additional space to present my ideas and more time and patience to paint. Like all of you I think... ;-)

Beautiful figures as always...
Once again perfectly staged by you and super painted.
It is every time a feast for the eyes when you present one of your works here.
