Yes, it was a great pleasure to paint them! But remark: the fashion of the women is only for around 1880, and very british. The research was quite difficult.

i do not question your colour choice of painting and the figures look real nice in display.

Due to Queen Victoria's loss of Elbert, many or indeed most British women wore black during that dark age period of British fashion design. Victoria wore black for 40 years so it became the normal society thing to follow her suit. BB

Yes, you are right. Its a kind of artfull choice, because the figures are planned for a big dioriama, so they must be eyecatchers. But in the colonies they wore often more fitting clothes, even with oriental elements. The fashion style shown here is only for the late 80´, and after a long research I found out, that the was a more colorful Style for a while. Its a choice.

I would suggest the average ‘English Rose’ would have kept away from the sun in those days.

The natives are very good and when they all are in situ that diorama will be fantastic.
