30.5 cm Morser

Posted by Gardefar on 15 Jun 2021, 14:20

Hello all,
This my first post with images. I hope it works. Wanted to share my Winter project. A 30.5 cm Austrian mortar in firing position behind a barn. The inspiration was a colorized World War One postcard. It is in the public domain so I can include it here. As things progressed, it became evident that I have to say my project is loosely based on this post card.

Loosely based? I would say your wonderful diorama is closer to a perfect replica! Amazing stuff.

Welcome here with your first post. A perfect 3D creation of the postcard. Is the barn scratch build?

Well done.

So this is the new way of working? First you make a diorama and then you let someone make a postcard of it! Smart!

Just joking Rob! You made a great piece of art! You have great skills!

Thank you all so much for the kind comments. The barn is indeed a scratch build. Here are a few in- progress shots.

Loosely? Yes, that's a pretty shoddy interpretation... :-D
A really nice looking diorama. The build is excellent!

Nice to see the nuts and bolts of this.

A superb scratch build .

There is a real atmosphere of the period in my opinion.

Best wishes,

Chris

How did you get the roof to look so much like naturally weathered wood?

It's just the same I thought when compared the original postcard and your diorama's picture, Gardefar. And also great is the making-off sequence. A wonderful work! :yeah:

The roof is plastic 12-inch wide wood shake shingle sheet primed dark brown, painted with greys, washed with dark brown and dry-brushed again lightly with grays.
