Trouble in Northern Ireland

Posted by panzerman825 on 18 Aug 2021, 00:54

Hello fellow miniaturists,
I originally made this scene for an Airfix group build on FB. I thought you all would enjoy it too. The scene depicts British troops in Northern Ireland during the 1970s called The Troubles.
The Saladin armored car is from Airfix in 1/76 scale. I added a commander and driver figure from my spares pile(converted Preiser figures). On the turret, I added lift eyelets, a searchlight, and antennas. On the hull, I replaced all the molded on tools with individual items. I also added lift eyelets, a rear facing vision port, and a jerry can. The destroyed truck is a Roco Opel truck suitably demolished. The figures are from Italeri's NATO troops. Two figures had their more modern Bullpup rifles replaced with timeframe correct FN rifles. The last figure added was behind the causeway wall. It's an Orion figure I converted to a man relieving himself(made from a German leader figure). The base is made of foam core board, cardboard, and cork. Thanks for viewing.

An unusual topic. And I have never seen the Aladin painted before. Looks good to me!

What a different piece.

This brings back memories of a difficult period but I think that you have caught the atmosphere very well.

The Saladin looks nice and so do the troops in their ‘greens’.

Best wishes,

Chris
