Gaesatae

Good evening, all of you! My apologies for posting so little these days. I should paint a bit more in the next months, but we have a beautiful September here, so I spend most of my time outside and not at my painting desk

A very quick post today, as only one figure is on display. This guy is a Gaesatae, a Celt mercenary, famous among ancient writers for fighting naked.



This figure is a simple conversion that all 1/72 Ancient fans should identify rather easily - do you guess ?

I'm in the mood for painting Celts these days, after reading "Rois du monde" by Jean-Philippe Jaworski.
"Rois du monde" (Kings of the world) is the translation of the celt Bituriges, the name of a tribe of central Gaul, and the main character of this series of books is Bellovèse, a legendary king who invaded the Po valley and founded Mediolanum, the future city of Milano. An excellent book, but I don't know if it has been translated in other tongues.

So, this guy should be the first of a new warband including other Gaesatae, Soldurii, ordinary warriors and a war chariot.

Hi Bluefachion, thank you for the welcome! Yes, everything's fine, and ready for a new calendar, but I hope that this year's calendar will be a team job (I have the name of the volunteers somewhere), I should write a post on this subject before the end of this month.
And don't forget that there's another event coming: Orctober, the moment when you must paint as many Orcs (and friends) as possible

Looking at the shield colors, I rather think it must be a Suisse or Austrian tribe!

Lovely figure! I can see the Hat - Carthaginian Allies set and is the head from the Caesar Miniatures Gaul set?

Great to hear you're painting more Celts, your original Celts were what inspired mine.

I tried to google the Kings of the World book series but it appears to only be in French

Hi Owen, and yes, you're absolutely right! The head comes from the wounded warrior in the Caesar set dedicated to Celts - I love Caesar figures (despite their bending weapons), too bad they're not in business anymore.
And also too bad that this book isn't translated, it is one of the best I've read for years (and I read a lot).

Our well known Gaesatae is now in discussion with his Germanic neighbour about the organization of a European Superpower. But it seems they don't share the same opinion regarding the leader of the alliance...

I agree with both ideas: Caesar figures are my favorites and it's a real shame that they will disappear completely from the market in a short time.
