1st Guards

I decided to redo my 1st Guards using the Italeri British infantry set, rather than the HaT Peninsular set I had used previously. Both are excellent sets, and the HaT set obviously has the advantage of being dedicated to the Peninsular War, but I have always used both for my British (adapting the Italeri when the HaT set was out of production for a while) and the taller Italeri figures seemed better suited for a Guard regiment. So this group of figures are all new, outside of the command stand which I have kept from the previous group, which will have new life as KGL.

I was going to apologize in advance! I actually painted the drummer a while ago, in my first go around with this set. Keep your eyes peeled when I post my Coldstream Guards.

I totally agree about the crouching shooter, and if I wasn’t so frugal about using my entire sets I would leave him out!

It's just that neither knee touches the ground and the right leg angles out awkwardly - not your typical stance for firing a musket, other than possibly a skirmisher on the move!

Great paint job on an excellent set.
I guess you know the drum is upside down by the string arrangement ...?
Some of the poses maybe ankward but this set would be my first option to depict British napoleonic infantry.
What do you think about the Emhar set?

Thanks, Joan. Yes, Chris has pointed out the drums. I have actually seen other figures with the strings upside down, but I’m pretty sure the figures were based on the Italeri. As Chris suggested, I have taken to carving them off and repainting, but hadn’t done it here.

For the Peninsula my first choice in figures is still probably HaT as it is dedicated to that era and has the companion command set, but my local toy soldier shop carries these guys so I have used a fair number. The Emhar set is quite good, too, but hard to come by. I at first thought it a bit stiff, but in painting it I grew to appreciate all the fine detail Emhar includes.
