Ascari's last stand

Posted by Iceman1964 on 03 Jan 2022, 19:55

In the "Work in Progress" directory you can find the topic with the historical background (Ascari's performance, Major Toselli and Amba Alagi defeat) and the figures development.
In the "Modelling" directory you can find the topic with the problem I'm encountering with a damned fungus since I completed the diorama.

Here are the pictures of the diorama as is now, somewhere the white fungi dots are visible, still fighting them ;-)

In case of fungi's victory, at least this topic will remain as memory of an unlucky diorama :xd:

Superb cleaned figures like Mr. Propper. :-D

I like the base. The irregular shape.
Top work.

Nice diorama with good scenery and nice painted figs. I hope you can solve the problem with the white dots! If it is real fungi you might put it in the oven to kill him?!

With all due respect to an experienced and skilled modelor, Jan, I am going to go ahead and recommend against baking this dio in an oven.

I am not spreaking of baking but to heat it up a bit. And the figures are metal so there will be no problem if you ask me.

You have done a very sophisticated and beautiful job here. :yeah: :-D
I have encountered a similar problem. In my case either from over-diluted varnish or from trapped moisture. An alternative to the oven is the hair dryer. ;-)
Maybe retouching with paint here and there is less time consuming than fighting the dots.

Thanks everybody for the feedback :-D

At the beginning I tried with hair dryer, but it was not effective (they were italians fungis, love the warm :xd: :xd: )
It seems that 3 vinegar treatments (one per day) have solved the problem, the white dots are now disappeared.
Painting has been slightly damaged in some parts, but few retouches have re-established the original surface, the diorama is safe :xd:

Lesson learned for the future, I'll let the surfaces dry for some days before boxing the diorama !!!!

What a relief! A beautiful dio created with months of hard work is not ruined, but saved instead. Hooray!!!

I'm happy you've almost solved the fungi problem, Iceman1964. You have achieved a wonderful diorama, not only due to the excellent painted figures but also for the amazing terrain.

My best compliments.

Santi.

A delight for the eyes, the figures and the painting alike.
A collection to have if it weren't for that I would need a couple more lives to paint everything I've already accumulated ... :eh: :-D
