Borodino, 4th group: French foot artillery

Posted by Bendy_Straw on 30 Jan 2022, 14:01

It has almost been a year, and this project is starting to round up nicely, and it will probably be finished in the next 3-4 months. Here are the french guns. The quality of my painting is only getting better, and in the past months I realised the importance of a good basing: they essentially are almost 50% of a good mini. And I tried a bunch of stuff until I could finally make realistic, nice looking bases, and I believe it's evident in these pics. Unfortunately I don't have a good quality camera, I assure you these look much better up close. It looks like I'm not puting a lot of effort in the highlights, but there are 3-4 layers of them, at least on the main colours, but my camera can't capture that. Anyways, I hope you enjoy these as much as I do. And check out the work in progress to see what I'm planning to do with the 3rd gun!

These pictures are very good and the highlighting is certainly visible when you enlarge them. I love this Zvezda set a lot because of the very good sculpting and the dynamic poses. These units are very well painted in detail and honour the set.
Thank you for sharing.

Those terrain bases look really terrific! Guns and "servants," too. Thanks for posting. Cannot wait to see the rest.

Man that cannon and figures are great painted...On photo they look as 1 32 scale...Like the groundwork also, but the metal details on cannon are superb...Like a real cannon...

Very niceley painted! Bases also look very realisitic. The use of the small gravel makes it very detailled. Is this for war gaming?

Hello Brendy,
agree with the colleagues. Well painted, good basing work. The highlights appear well.
One item could maybe improve on what you show already - reduce the shine by using better matt varnish

That's a good observation, I have also realised I have a small issue with this.

Really nice, I think you can see the improvements from some of your original works shared? These are great figures and you've more than done them justice.

Yes, the difference is clear, that's why I keep my favourite minis to paint last :P
