Journey to the Punic Wars

Posted by Paboook on 18 Mar 2022, 20:22

Part one of my 1:72 Clash of Spears project. I need to add more grass on the bases but I am quite hapy with these Romans otherwise. Zvezda made an amazing set! There are just minor conversions – swapping some heads and plumes to make units more variable.

Comparison picture with classic 28 mm Warhammer halbedier by Perry brothers (1990s).

I have decided for common shield emblems for each unit type to make them easier to recognize on the gaming table. Sorry for lower quality of the rest of the pictures.

Amazing work on the metal parts and the skin.
Some more close-ups would be great.

I like your painting style, Paboook. You have achieved a very realistic result on those fantastic Zvezda figures.

Some top notch painting, those shield details are incredible really. Especially the red shields with the gold horses.

I hope to see more of this project and others!

PS> what is your favorite primer for Zvezda plastic?

Thanks!

I use 1 or 2 fine coats of humbrol Matt white but if I feel there is a chance of painting flaking off then I add a coat of gloss white.

Indeed, the colors look extremely realistic to me!

interesting, does the gloss have any special characteristics?

I have been using model master primer, its one of those smelly acrylics. but I noticed some of my linear a minis I painted flaking, especially on the skin tone colors I used. So I really have to get this figured out, and I am really wanting to paint a few Zvezda minis.

Thank you.

Love the washed out, brown tone on your figures!
