England 1069

Posted by ells10 on 21 Dec 2022, 06:21

Most people are aware of the Norman invasion of England in 1066 when there was a battle near Hastings and that was it, England conquered in one go. The reality is that England was not fully conquered until 1075, William having to deal with various revolts around the country.
What I have tried to replicate is the Danish and Saxon forces that joined up to form the Northumbrian uprising, they had also been joined by exiles from Scotland. The combined Danish and Saxon forces defeated the Norman garrison at York, seized the castles and took control of Northumbria.
As news arrives to say the Norman army is advancing, the joint force prepares for battle by creating a shield wall consisting of housecarls, thegns and the Fryd.
Archers are deployed at the rear of the shield wall and at strategic points the nobles are positioned to give encouragement and to plug any gaps made in the wall.
Cavalry cover the flanks, and try to take control of the small bridges crossing the waterways.

That’s a very fine army you have there .

Lots of childhood memories with the Airfix guys, but they do look good.

Excellent work in my opinion.

Best wishes,

Chris

An impressive array of well-painted figures, and as with your TYW units it is always interesting to spot the provenance of the various figures. Fine work!

And here I thought you had a lot of TYW figures. Wow. We want your secret, do have an army of elves painting chained up in your basement? Amazing stuff.
Cheers,

Such an impressive array. That shield wall looks fantastic, and with your single figure basing very realistic and believable!

Amazing how many beautifull painted figures you keep presenting at this forum.
If not with help of the elves as Bessiere wrote, you must be doing this hobby for more than 100 years I guess. :notworthy:

thank you for sharing
