Trojan War DBA armies

Posted by despertaferro on 09 Feb 2015, 13:53

Hi,

After a few months away from painting, here you have my latest BDA armies in progress.

They are for Later Mycenaean period and focusing on Trojan War: Achaeans and Trojans.

These time I get back to the Bronze Age; a period that I like very much despite how difficult is to find accurate information about. Most part of figures produced represents the elite warriors, clad in full bronze armour and weapons. But if we know that, even at the middle age period most of the warriors were barefoot and just armed with a spear and a wooden shield, probably at 1200 BC the majority of them were almost naked and armed with clubs and stones or spears, daggers and hide shields at the most. My guess is that very few were wealthy enough to provide themselves with a linen, leather or bronze breastplate and sharp edged bronze weapons.

Anyhow, as far these are some elite heavy infantry and cavalry (chariots), I’m happy with the final outcome.

I hope you like them and many thanks for stopping by.

Astonishingly masterpiece of mostly Mars figures, I presume. I had never thought that somebody can paint them so wonderful.

Hi,
Some more new bases to increase my Trojan War range: 4 Achaean bases (2x4Warband and 2x2Psiloi) and 4 Trojan bases (1x3Blades, 1x3Auxilia and 2x2Psiloi).

Figures are from Caesar, Mars and Esci.

I hope you like them and thanks for watching...

despertaferro--

I have often complimented you on how well your painting style works on figures from different eras, but I must say your style might work the best of all on these ancients. I think I can speak for the entire Bennos forum community when I say: "keep 'em coming."

An incredible mix of figures. Great movement and energy from each unit compliments your toned down painting style. I think I would be completely intimidated if you put those units down on the table across from me at a tournament.
