My bigger buildings at the back of the picture are plaster made by a German manufacturer who I think has gone out of business (can't remember their name, sorry). Plaster's not a great material for wargaming as it chips very easily; I've had to make a lot of running repairs! The buildings being assaulted in the picture are resin model and were bought from a mate's wargaming business,
Wargame Miniatures. You're in the US, IIRC, so you might want to find something a little closer to lessen the shipping costs. The manufacturer is
JR Miniatures, who are located in California, I think. You might find a store closer to you which stocks them.
We use 15mm scale buildings to represent a built up area, rather than individual houses. Basically a town block with all the fences, gardens, sheds, outhouses, barns etc. you'd expect to find in a cluster of buildings. It's more the model's footprint, than the model itself, which is the important factor.
