Scratchbuild Peninsular War Buildings

I've been posting the scratchbuild for these here over on the WIP page http://bennosfiguresforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=23010 but thought I would take a break from building and throw what I have made over the past month into a little diorama.
It's just a temporary scene - these will be used as wargaming buildings for my Peninsular war scenarios. The scale may seem a bit off for 1/72 and it is - again, I'm looking for a balance between what looks okay on the table and what works when representing villages on the gaming table!
Hope you enjoy them as much as I did making them...

I think you have got the work/ scale balance about right.

The scene of the troops coming up the hill from the front is particularly appealing to me.

This diorama looks very good, and I think the extra effort to add some realistic background really pays: it gives the whole scene more depth and thus enhances the effect of the foreground.

I missed that windmill during the WIP thread. How did you make that? With styrofoam, an exacto, some paint, and plenty of love?

I believe your village, it looks like a place I'd like to visit.

I agree with Chris the scale is just right, it works in close up with the figures and it works in landscape shots. The texture of the buildings removes any hint of model and the addition of the figures makes this a living place.

Yes, the windmill I just added for background - I built that a few years ago. Cardboard tubing, some applied papier mache mash for texture. I was pleased with the wind vanes - just some wire mesh attached to balsa shafts!

I hope your surgery goes well. But even if it doesn't, you have shown me you will be able to create incredible things even if you have only the use of one eye.

As for the windmill, the joke is on me. I really did think it was part of the background photo since the color was much darker than the new buildings.
