New Late Roman Figures

Its been an uphill battle for me and the hobby, work and life continue to make it difficult to paint and generally keep up. I have been painting some brand new 1/72 Late Roman cavalry from Newline Designs and have started on Sean's older Late Roman codes too. The right amount of shading to get facial features to really look pronounced without darkening the whole figure. the subtle highlights on the hair is also well done. I am guessing you paint a flat color for the face, then a brown wash for shading, then a dark or black for the final wash?

I especial like how you did Chi Ro on shields...White is hard to do...

regarding the recipe questions;

Faces, I usually start with basecoat of (old) citadel Tallarn Flesh, (old) citadel Delvan mud wash. Depending on how this turns out I'll go back over with Tallarn and finish off with a very thinned down (old) citadel Elf Flesh on the nose cheeks and chin at least.

With the Chi Ro I used Vallejo Sky grey and had to go over a few times with Vallejo White.

Susofrick that is apt and thanks, I'm hoping to use as Athurians or Roman/generic "dark age" army... I may attempt to give some cloaks with green stuff and hope Sean scales down his 28mm Arthurians down to 1/72! But I think that is a long term goal haha

You did a great job Tone, your figs are superb ! And now at least i know what those references looks like : on the webbsite there were no pictures of them ? Do you have other late roman (plastic) figs t show them together, to see if they can be mixed ?

Glad you like them! Sean will be updating the website bit by bit. The earlier comparisons with the older codes are a good guide but I will strive to do further comparisons watch this space!
