2020 Advent Calendar

Love it! How upset can the owners be? At least they aren't stealing the apples...

A really nice presentation, and you are right, my favourite period. Revell Rifles, right? I just painted these, but converted them all to Caçadores.

Nice Brits! Impressive versatility, PhilC.

Bill Slavin may have converted these same Revell Rifles into Caçadores (whatever that might be) but I converted my Honey Caramel Chocolate Truffle into stomach contents.

Any picture ? No, no ,no , NO, just kidding

For today (day 20 of the calendar) we travel to the Indus valley, in the 4th century BC.

Image

These warriors are 'Classical Indians', according to DBA army lists. They are the men who fought with King Porus against the army of Alexander on the banks of the Hydaspes river. They used the bow as primary weapon, but there were also sword and shield soldiers. They also used 2 horse or 4 horse chariots, cavalry and war elephants - I intend to paint all of them one day.

We can also transform the Classical Indian army to be used for HOTT, or any Fantasy ruleset, by adding an avatar of a semigod, which allows me to dedicate this post to Beano Boy, here:

This figure comes from the Kinnikuman / M.U.S.C.L.E. range, which is illustrated by BB in this topic:

More pictures, and questions about historical accuracy here: https://philotepsfigures.blogspot.com/2020/12/2020-advent-calendar-day-20.html - your contributions on that subject will be highly appreciated :-)

See you tomorrow for the next picture of the calendar.

PhilC I am not very far away from naming you a Master of Metals. You have me searching online for some new paints. That Vishnu looking dude is tremendous.

Ah ah, that's great to read... although I forgot to invest money into the industry of miniature paints

Let's go back to business. Today is not an ordinary day, it is Saint Peter's day (yes, yes, I found a Saint Pierre Canisius on the web for today). And what could I show you on that day, if not... Mummies.

So today, on the 21st December, in a post dedicated to Peter the Moderator, the man-who-quotes-the-Beatles-but-not-on purpose, let me show you the New Return of the Mummies !!

See you soon !

Fantastic mummies, although they might fit in better around Halloween instead of Christmas.

In any event, Milk Chocolate coating over pralines and creme tasted almost as good.

Thank you Bluefalchion.

For Day 22 of the calendar, some more Roman legionaries.

Very classical but effective on a wargame table

I missed my day yesterday, but I love those mummies! :-D

And these Romans can be some good opponents for them! ;-)

Colorful legionairres. Do you paint the patterns on the shields free-hand?

The chocolate today had creamy filling and tasted a bit like a cinnamon roll.

Thanks!
Yes Peter, a good mythologic wargame with Romans against Mummies would be great !
And yes Blufalchion, the shields of my minis are all free-hand.

Thank you very much! It's already late here (too much urgent work to do first), but I can at least reveal the picture of the day :-)

For day 23 of the advent calendar, the Goths are coming!

Image

These guys are part of the Goth army about to fight against the Roman forces at Adrianopolis in 378. The beginning of the end for the Romans, at least the Western Empire...

That's an idea...
I could do a calendar for everyday of the year! But in order to succeed, since I can't paint AND create scenes AND take pictures AND write new posts every day, I must look for service providers and sign contrats with them, one for every step of the process, and then I will have to spend my whole time in coordination between them, call those who are late, send badly painted figures back, and even pay a translator to understand the written posts, because of course it will be too expensive to have a local writer... and in the end, I won't paint anymore and will get frustrated, and will run out of money because I will have quit my job
